VALENTINE’S afFAIR

If you’re looking for a nice gift for this year’s Valentine’s day, you might want to check out the Valentine’s (af)fair at 1961 this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday the following shops will sell their selection of special gifts for your loved one (or just for yourself ;) ):

There will be 2 pink tuctucs (the “love” tuctucs)  for free transport between Pub Street and 1961. If you wear pink, you’ll get a 5% discount.

1961 will show a romantic movie on Sunday evening at 6pm.

On Sunday there will be live music by Debra, Aya, Mayuko and Phil. They have made a playlist of smooth, easy listening jazz and pop songs. The gig starts at 3pm.

There will be sweets (Wink) and drinks, a fantastic recipe to spend a great weekend…ah…and…of course a good opportunity to get some lingerie in Siem Reap ;)

Japanese Dance Festival

The Angkor Japanese Association will organize the 4th annual Japanese Dance Festival on 27 November 2011. Since its first edition in 2008 the festival has grown steadily, reaching more than 500 guests last year.

Download the flyer in pdf format:

Japanese Dance, is called Bon Odori in Japanese. Odori is dancing, and Bon is one of the most important Japanese traditions. People believe that their ancestors’ spirits come back to their homes to be reunited with their family during Bon and pray for the spirits. For this reason, Bon is an important family gathering , and many people return to their hometowns.

Bon dance (folk dance) is widely practiced on Bon nights. Styles of dance vary from area to area, but usually Japanese Taiko drums keep the rhythms. People go to their neighborhood Bon dance held at parks, gardens, shrines, or temples, wearing Yukata (summer Kimono) and dance around a Yagura stage. Anyone can participate in Bon dance, so join the circle and imitate what others are doing.

The event has food, drink and game stands. And also some groups will show special performance during the festival. Admission free!

Ca Ca Cappucino

Ca Ca Cappuccino

Ca Ca Cappuccino is a cool, newly opened coffee shop in Siem Reap. The professional barista ensures you get a tasty cup of coffee. Perfect atmosphere for reading a book or spend some time online (free wifi). My favorite is the espresso and panna cotta set ($2).

If you’re curious about the place, don’t miss their cappuccino tasting on 12 Nov 2011 with free cappuccino, free dessert with other coffee orders and more tasting coupons to use in the period of 13 to 16 Nov.

Think Yes

Think Yes: Help us as we support the Angkor Hospital for Children with a heart pumping 460km bicycle ride.

Le Méridien Angkor aims to increase awareness of The Angkor Hospital for Children’s mission and raise enough funds for the open heart surgery of local 3-year old girl, Di Sreihi. To bring attention to this cause, Gregory Andreson, Le Méridien Angkor’s General Manager, will embark on a 460km bicycle solo journey through the Cambodian countryside beginning on June 12, 2011 and concluding in Bangkok.

Follow the bike ride

Anderson will begin a heart pumping bike ride commencing at the edge of the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap, Cambodia, riding west and across the border into Thailand to finish in Bangkok. Anderson will embark on this excursion with only his bike, a camera, and a GPS unit, with which he will send updates and images of his whereabouts which will be posted here and in our Facebook Page.
